History

Created in 2015, Art+ Scholars originated as The Center for Excellence as an answer to budgetary cuts at Bayside Luther King, Jr. Academy, in order to restore the art and music programs that had been cut. We believed that this small Title 1 public school in Marin City, CA (where almost all students qualified for free and reduced lunch) deserved to have a thriving arts curriculum. Our nonprofit’s aim was to restore and expand arts programs and simultaneously work to help Sausalito Marin City School District develop a world class arts program, one in which students are inspired and empowered to gain educational excellence through engagement in the visual and performing arts. Now in 2024, the school’s name and some of its demographics have changed but we remain committed to our original goals and ideals.
